Kitchen Design Tips

How to customise your kitchen workspace

The most important aspect of any kitchen design is whether it’s appropriate for your lifestyle. One size does not fit all as every household has different priorities.

Your kitchen layout should be customised so that each element works in harmony with your daily activities.

The crucial kitchen triangle

The journey between sink, stove and refrigerator is one that’s made many times during a day. Therefore, the flow between the three is crucial to the dynamics of your kitchen.

If your current layout isn’t working for you, investigate whether you can change it. For example, if you don’t like the current placement of your sink or you’d like to have it inset into a kitchen island, a plumber can advise on repositioning pipes.

Your oven and hob should be in a well-ventilated area. It may be possible to change their current position. When your sink, hob and oven are in place, you can then decide where to put the fridge.

The end result should be an easy flow between the three.

A flexible kitchen island

Kitchen islands are highly functional and can provide much needed extra workspace and storage space.

Kitchen islands come in different shapes and sizes, including U-shaped, L-shaped, circular or galley islands. You can add seating and use the island as an informal eating place or have it purely as a worktop.

You can configure a kitchen island to suit your space and use it as a divider to separate different sections of your kitchen without actually closing them off from each other.

Customising internal shelving

Another way to make your kitchen work for you is to customise the shelving in your cabinets. Turntable spinning shelves are ideal for making the most of corner space, allowing you to utilise even the back corner of a cabinet.

Fitted shelves or pull-out racks in cabinets also offer customised storage options. Storage walls can be built-in to house small appliances or used as a larder.

To gain extra storage, open shelves can display crockery and glassware while overhead racks or hooks will hold pots and pans.

New storage features from Nobilia

The 2021 Nobilia Kitchen Collection has a range of innovative features to help with organisation – these included drawer and pull-out systems that provide structured storage space.

These new features even include turntables for fridges and pantries. The turntable rotates by 360 degrees to provide a complete view of what’s inside your fridge or pantry.

New corner units have been designed with alternative dimensions to make them customisable with internal storage features, so you gain even more storage space.

Kitchen recycling options

As well as new storage features, Nobilia has also introduced customisable waste separation systems.

These include sliding drawers and cabinets that allow you to easily divide your recycling. There’s a storage unit with a lid that takes all food waste that can be composted. A separate zone stores used tins and glass.

Sliding drawers and units have been designed to make it easy to keep your recycling and waste out of sight. At the same time, when they’re full, it’s a simple matter to dispose of the contents into the correct recycling bin.
